How is it acceptable for Shaw to be doing packet injection to show a survey? http://i.imgur.com/Pw5HTnl.png Here's the URL with my IP obfuscated: http://feedback-survey.org/16/index.php?ua=Mozilla%2F5.0%20%28Windows%20NT%206.1%3B%20Win64%3B%20x64%3B%20rv%3A49.0%29%20Gecko%2F20100101%20Firefox%2F49.0&browserversion=Firefox%2049&city=Calgary&country=CA&device=DESKTOP&isp=Shaw%20Communications%20inc.&ip=x.x.x.x&os=Windows&osversion=Windows%207&browser=Firefox&target=Cloud%20Storage&type=&match=&voluumdata=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&siteid=101&channel=Technology%20&%20Computing&subchannel=Cloud%20Storage&cpv=0.002858517

[ALL] X1 platform, DOCSIS 3.1, 2016 4th quarter, future

So Shaw has had another release on the future. Targeting Comcast's X1 platform to be rolled out over 2017, with a test market for the end of 2016, aside from current Beta Testers. DOCSIS 3.1 for 2017 as Shaw tries to keep up with the fibre backbone to feed it, hardware, along with more node splits. Continuing combining Wind Mobile to the Shaw network. Losing many land line phone customers, same as others, because who needs an expensive land line. http://www.multichannel.com/news/content/shaw-track-full-footprint-rollout-x1/408848 The X1 rollout is one of three initiatives tied to $1.3 billion in capital spending Shaw is releasing for its 2017 fiscal year. That includes Shaw’s rollout of DOCSIS 3.1, which will enable gigabit-class high-speed Internet services, and an LTE buildout to Shaw’s major and medium-sized communities. “DOCSIS 3.1 will be available to the vast majority of customer homes by the end of F17,” Shaw said, noting that this network readiness plan includes elements such as node splits and a move to a fiber deep architecture, and conversions to CCAP (converged cable access platform). In fiscal 2015 and 2016 Shaw recognized total equity losses of $108 million tied to Shomi, and an additional $51 million impairment in Q3 of FY 2016. Shaw said the operator expects to incur additional costs in relation to the wind-down of up to $120 million. 4th quarter results and fiscal futures. https://newsroom.shaw.ca/corporate/newsroom/news/2016-11-02-Shaw-announces-fourth-quarter-and-full-year-fiscal-2016-results/

Hitron ethernet + wireless communication

If I put my laptop on the Hitron LAN connection I can ping it from my desktop computer, but if I put the laptop on the 2.4ghz wireless I can't ping it. Shouldn't this be possible since both the LAN and wireless are using 192.168.0.x IPs?

Problems with 2nd DHCP IP address - bridged mode

Hi there. Recently switched from the Broadband 100 to Wide Open 150 and overall I am happy with the speed and reliability. My primary home network is very stable, and my wifi router always gets the same IP address, even after switching from the Cisco to the Hitron modem. It has been the same address for literally years, which is very handy. The problem I am having it trying to get the second address to work. I've talked to support a couple of times and they don't know what the problem is. The configuration for the second IP is there, but actually getting that second address is extremely unreliable and does not work most of the time. I've used a laptop and two different routers for testing, we have taken the modem out of and returned it to bridge mode and done numerous modem reloads. I did manage to get a dynamic IP on my laptop recently (a 50.xxx.xxx.xxx address on a different segment from the primary), but it would not return after I disconnected and reconnected. Same deal with one of the two routers (which got a 24.xx.xx.xx address), but would not return after a router reload. Again today nothing seems to work. DHCP broadcasts are going out, and nothing is coming back - I've verified this with both debug mode on one of the routers (Cisco 871) and with a Wireshark capture using both a span port on my switch and running directly on the laptop. I've tried different ports on the back of the modem as well as trying both routers on the same modem port through a switch. I've even tried cloning successful MACs in case they are cached by the server, but no luck with that either. The first one always comes back with out issue (thankfully) but it just does not want to hand out a second IP. Anyone else have this problem, or any ideas on anything I could try to resolve the issue? The support people are helpful, but obviously don't have any visibility into the DHCP susbsystem. Is there any way to escalate this to someone who can actually look at a packet trace and track down the issue? It is not critical, but I really would like to get this to work reliably. Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated. Cheers

SHAW - Signup nightmare ...

Hi, anybody else experience this? Called SHAW on Tuesday to sign up. Sales Rep was nice, and told me, that I can get the internet 150 for $49.90/month on month-to-month for the first 12 month (no contract). This was new to me, so I triple checked with him, that I will pay $49.90 a month and no contract at all. He confirmed multiple times. He than offered to send a tech for Wednesday (Next day!!), however, since I was a SHAW customer before at this address, he said, that I can just get the modem and connect it and it should work. So I declined the tech because did not want to waste their time, since all should be still as it was left when I left SHAW a few years ago (and I am do IT for a living). Got the modem, hooked it up and ... nothing. It is not getting a link to SHAW ... Called SHAW tech support and, well, they cannot do anything and have to send a tech, but he can first come in a week!!! I called a few hours ago (like 3 hours have past since my signup) and I can first get a tech in a week at best???? How was the sales rep able to get a tech for Wednesday??? Days past (today, Thursday), I get my bill. DOUBLE charge!! Basically SHAW charged for 2 month up front but the Sales Rep did not bother to tell me!!! AND it was not $49.90 it was $60!!! Called in, and well, thats their pricing. Sales Rep wanted to polish his sales numbers. Frustrating to no end!! I will cancel the service and go back to TELUS since I never had these issues with TELUS!! Am I alone in this or did others have had the same experience? Cheers, Eddi

Shaw quietly deletes internet 60 offering

Edit: Internet 150 is now $100 a month, without contract. Link has been scrubbed from internet speed choices, and internet 60 page has a 'sorry, service not available'. Telus offers some speeds that they no longer advertise as well (internet 1, 6 ,100?). https://www.shaw.ca/internet/highspeed-60/ [att=1]

Shaw Fibre

No sooner is TELUS's fibre buildout complete than Shaw has started theirs. This morning I was walking my kid to school and four trenching trucks rolled up beside the highway and started digging. Does anyone know if they plan to do FTTH? Or is this FTTN to support DOCSIS 3.1? I guess the latter but thought I would ask out of curiosity. 150/15 is currently the fastest speed that Shaw offers here.

Shaw Biz Fiber Outage

Anyone else have to be on the loosing end of another Shaw outage this afternoon affecting any business on a fiber based service? Dropped about 12PM and was up and down until about 6PM MDT. A call into the NOC revealed no information other than the issue was affecting southern AB and possibly farther.

Shaw is Now Lying about Telus 150/150 speeds

So I called in to shaw today to get them to see if they could break out my tv from my bb250 package. After running around for an hour they couldn't decide if my package was residential or business. Once they figured it out they told me they couldn't do it and if i want to remove tv I have to cancel my internet package and upgrade to their 150/15 *New and Improved package* I told the lady congrats on offering me and upsell on a package that is shittier than a package that was offered in 2012. She then went on and said well if we can give you the internet 150 plus for 130 a month with no contract or you can get it for 100 a month on a two year plan. I reminded her that the website clearly states that they will not charge for overages. Heres the statement from the Shaw website: Fast Internet speed is great – but not when it costs an arm and a leg. With our FibrePlus cost advantage, you enjoy the best price for the fastest speed and with our price guarantee7, what you see is what you get. Plus, we don’t charge you for going over your data cap. Ready to ride the wave? Apparently they dont really mean it. They just mean if you go over by an undetermined amount they will cut you off. So I laughed at her and said well if my internet is going to be reduced to telus's offering with a lower speed upload and then a higher price. I should probably just go with them since there no point in using shaw. She then proceeded to inform me that Telus can't actually provide 150 mbps upload. So i offered to send her a speedtest result from my Telus 150/150 Well thats where just just laughed and basically now im terminating my shaw account after 16 years. Fuck them.

[BC] Hitron modem problems

Having suffered the the Shaw Hitron 150 modem upgrade and multiple tech visits I am reading its an Intel chipset in the modem. Very recent news, Rogers is beta testing a small fix, so all the tech visits and modem swaps I have had are not going to help, it will have to be this chip fix if its possible. Shaw doesn't seem to know this yet, they will send out and keep sending me techs to swap modems, check levels and by the time I see their tailights going out of sight, the problem is back. Looks like these modems are a big problem for many ISP's

Shaw 150/15 real world experiences

Hey guys, 150/15 has been out for a while now so I thought I would check in to see real world usage from the membership here. Since I signed up in mid-summer I have received a consistent 178 down. Up started off being consistently good at around 16 Mbps, recently I have been floating around 8-10 Mbps. Bufferbloat has been fine on the download and really bad on the upload. You guys have any experiences you would like to share? I never really wanted the dl speeds and only signed because of monetary reasons and the increased upload speeds. It appears the upload speeds aren't as promised for me. Hopefully DOCSIS 3.1 comes soon. (o;'

[AB] Inconsistent Latency - Calgary SE

Calgary, SE, Auburn Bay. Getting some strange jitter lately, usually in the evenings. From my router: Speeptest.shaw.ca anywhere from 90ms to 1115ms, Google.ca from 30ms to 3000ms. I don't think it's my private router, issue occurs after reset, but I haven't gone straight through. router to modem latency is .5ms to .7ms. I'm not seeing any packetloss. B50 plan. Any thoughts? Sites that stream without buffering are having issues.

BlueSky TV is live, but no DOCSIS 3.1

I kind of assumed the DOCSIS 3.1 would need to be behind the scenes of the new X1 TV platform. I guess not.
