Shaw and iTunes

I rent an apartment where Shaw is available and is included in my rent - ergo I do not have my own Shaw account and cannot access their Customer Service. It is approx 16mb download and fine for Netflix, YouTube, and other streaming services. However, I am unable to play an entire movie from/on iTunes. Whether I try and download it for viewing later or stream it I have tried 4 or 5 times and it stops about a third of the way through and will not continue. iTunes have refunded every time but have not answered any questions as to why this is happening? Is it Shaw? Is it iTunes? (2010 MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 8 Gig SSD drive) Anyone else have this issue?

I ordered the self install package on Dec. 15, still have not seen it. Is this normal, it has been 16 days. You would think they would send it quicker than this.

Speculation:Shaw will never have same or similar upload/download speeds

I was told this is due to the current technology of cable? Shaw's official response is people don't need more than 15 Mbps. Well, I disagree. Try uploading your pics to Google Photos and see how long that takes you if you have several thousand pics. I'm sure there's many other examples where higher upload speeds are necessary.

MAC LOCK on the XB6

I got my new Shaw XB6 Service working today. On my ASUS Router I unplugged my bridged TELUS Adsl service and plugged in my Shaw bridged service expecting it to JUST WORK. But it didn't. The ASUS router said "Your ISP's DHCP does not work correctly". After a good healthy round of swearing and trying several things I come up the hypothesis that the XB6 was Mac Locked and was refusing to give the IP address up to my ASUS router and communicate with it. You see while the tech was bridging the modem, this was done on my laptop which was plugged into the XB6, and not the ASUS router. The XB6 was bridged and it worked great on the laptop, and the tech left. And so I plugged it into my router and then several hours of swearing ensued. So to test my hypothesis I took the MAC Address from my laptop and set the Asus router to the show the same MAC Address and VIOLA the XB6 gave up the IP address to my Asus router and everything was fine. So I am making this posting for two reasons: 1. So the anyone else who runs into this problem will know what causes it. 2. To get some suggestions on the best way to release that MAC lock on the XB6, so thoughts?

Remember when 150 2yr plan was $49.90 yr1/$79.90 yr2?

My final year is 2018 before my contract is up and I was just casually checking the pricing of Shaw internet plans and have seen that it has gone up to $55 (6 month)/$99 (1 1/2 yr). Just less than a year and it already costs $20 more. Internet 15 for $55 (3 month)/$79 per month is highway robbery. I also don't get the whole need for online credit to offshoot whatever it is they want to make more complicated than it should be.

Port 22 (ssh) open on XB6 by default. How do I disable it?

For some reason that I can't fathom, port 22 is enabled on my XB6 modem/router. Changing the firewall level, even to maximum, doesn't close the port. This seems like a massive security hole. Anyone else here see port 22 open on their XB6? And does anyone know how to disable it?

Shaw Business is still not on DOCSIS 3???

Any idea when we can sync up to 600mbit? or even have a Technicolor modem? Shaw Business was kind enough to let me know even though I've been paying $230/m for 3 years I'm unable to have a Technicolor modem because it isn't "approved" for business in Canada. The representative even after going to retentions let me know that DOCSIS 3 was also "not approved" for business in Canada??? (the rep beforehand said they couldn't help me... and then after I said Telus was awful forwarded me to retentions saying I said some magic words...). It's been three months now and it's the same story... what's up? Why is Business so far behind on this when we're paying the lions-share of the bill for Shaw...

Confused about bridging.

I am thinking of switching to Shaw for the 600 service. Is there new Advanced Wifi Modem bridgeable? My intention is connect my existing much more powerful router to it and use it as modem only, and disable the WiFi on the Shaw router. Is this doable. Do we get menu access on the Shaw Router? Does anyone have a link to the manual for this router. Thanks in advance.

Article: Shaw price increases maybe April 2019

Wondering when Shaw would be doing the price increase fart for 2019. 2018 increase was June 1 https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31905764-Shaw-price-increase-June-1-2018 . . https://vancouversun.com/telecom/shaw-getting-ready-to-raise-prices-for-its-main-residential-service-ceo-says/wcm/00c6fa50-0597-4b2d-a3d3-bd50205e13df Shaw told reporters that the details of the cable, internet and wireless company’s price increases haven’t been decided but they will most likely take effect in April. He said the cost of getting rights to sports programing is getting higher for Shaw and other Canadian television service providers, even though audiences are falling. Interesting about sports. So that means Shaw should be making sports a 100% subscriber module, jacking up those rates for dedicated subscribers instead, and no more free TSN in basic cable. Old contracts (CRTC rules) for sports on basic cable must of hit expiry at some point in time? But that does scare TSN about the loss of free welfare (subsidy) money from basic cable impacting the bottom line of finances. Dec 1987 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sports_Network Look at the instant increase in money viewers... There are multi-product businesses out there where the profitable part of the business subsidizes the failing part of the business, and at some point the accountants need to make the case for killing the failing part off. I've seen old commercial buildings (old pub/motel/light-industrial) that have sat for sale for several years, not sold, so at some point the owner demolishes it and now selling as an empty lot, with a large reduction in property taxes for an empty lot, as opposed to a building with weekly basic maintenance. Shaw Communications, on the other hand, beat analyst estimates for both profit and revenue over the same period — mainly because of its Freedom Mobile wireless division. Its main cable and internet business, however, saw virtually no revenue growth as it lost video subscribers and home phone customers. However, the profit margin at Shaw’s wireline residential services was up significantly from last year’s first quarter as management focused on optimizing its consumer business’ by removing costs where possible. Shaw cutting staff through a buyout program, that was so popular, Executives freaked out. Feb 2018 https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31836205-Shaw-cutting-staff-by-25-to-shift-focus-away-from-cable-business Telus price increase Feb 25 2019, and appears to be $5 for Internet. $5 for select OptikTV combos. https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r32244194-Price-increase-Feb-25-2019-Internet-and-OptikTV

Shaw doubles speeds and bumps Canada up 9 places in OOKLA world ranking

Thought I'd toot the ol' Shaw horn: "CANADIAN ISP DOUBLES SPEEDS, CANADA JUMPS 9 PLACES IN WORLD RANKING" https://www.speedtest.net/insights/blog/canadian-isp-doubles-speeds/ How would you like it if your Internet Service Provider (ISP) decided to double your speeds overnight? On December 3, 2018, Canadian ISP Shaw did just that. And the results were so impactful that Canada jumped nine places in the Speedtest Global Index, from 16th fastest country in the world in November 2018 to 7th in December 2018 as Canada’s average download speed over fixed broadband increased from 91.05 to 108.75 Mbps. The upgrade also helped Shaw rise from third to second place ISP in Canada based on Speed ScoreTM, a measure that combines download and upload speeds at a variety of performance tiers.

New installation - Self/intsaller & Moco filter?

I'll be switching from Telus to Shaw internet 300. After giving Shaw tech support my exact address, I was told I could just P/U the modem from retail shop and do self installation (installer option is also available to me FOC). On the other Shaw thread someone mentioned the Technicolor XB6 Avanced Modem/Router with Moca filter, however I was told by tech support that only installer could do the Moca filter. Am I correct that its better to let the installer do the setup with Moca filter and request for the Technicolor XB6 Avanced Modem/Router? Thanks.

Download on First Ip slow, second ip on router normal

Hi so I am having problems with Shaw's Internet again. My Server which is connected directly to my XB6 modem is only getting around 120 mbps download and the upload is normal. And my router connected to my second Ip is getting the 600 mbps download and normal 20 mbps upload. I called shaw and they said I have to put my modem into normal non bridged mode and test that way so I said no. Now its been doing this for over a month and I powercycled the modem and still nothing. I don't think its my server connection because it was working fine awhile ago and the download speed test sometimes goes to 160 - 170 mbps download.
