Selling Shaw PVR on kijiji

Hi, I have a Shaw PVR (DCX3400) that I want to sell since I'm no longer with Shaw, however I have a few questions. 1) It looks like Kijiji is a popular place to sell used equipment like this, but I have never sold anything before on Kijiji. What should I be aware of, or any tips to avoid scams, etc. I'm a little nervous. 2) I haven't been with Shaw for over an year and the PVR has been sitting unplugged. Do I need to do anything to clear my recordings or any private information that might be stored? 3) Lastly, what would be a fair price for this PVR? It is in full working condition, has the remote, and HDMI cable. Thanks.

[AB] How can a VPN completely knock out the internet?

When I use a UDP VPN on my vmware machine, it knocks out the entire shaw internet from all computers and makes the modem do a reset. How is this possible? I looked for a UDP timeout setting in the cisco modem but I couldn't find anything. Anyone have any ideas on how this happens and how to prevent it from happening? Modem is a DPC3825

[BC] Shaw screwing me over

So I switched from Shaw to another cable internet provider which is reusing Shaw's cable infrastructure. Naturally, I close my account with Shaw so I don't pay two providers for one service. While there was an overlap when both providers were being paid, my service worked and I was getting my IP from the new provider. There was a one month overlap due to Shaw needing a 30 day notice. So Shaw came last Tuesday to disconnect my service. Do they not even check if a customer is still a cable internet subscriber with another provider who is leasing some of Shaw's cable infrastructure? I was told there would be a Shaw tech (by my new provider) coming by Sunday morning to reconnect me. Noone came. I followed up with my new provider and they reopen a ticket with Shaw. No new date is set for a Shaw tech to drop by. I went as far as calling Shaw directly, but they said as my account is closed, they can't do anything for me. I could however reopen my account directly with Shaw and they can send a tech within a day. But in my scenario, I have to deal directly with my new provider and have them chase down Shaw. Shaw is effectively being a dick and making life difficult for 3rd party resellers and their clients.

MY refurbed PVR , has the subscription channels but when I try to use the PVR the onscreen message says to call shaw 1800 number because PVR is currently disabled. When I call local , shaw. They reboot the box and then say there must be a hardware problem with the box. So Sorry. The box id is M90 851 1ZB J153 if any shaw techies think they can fix it. The PVR worked in august 2013. In place of PVR , functions ,, the onscreen guide now lists vcr timers instead.

Speed Question

For years I have had no problem with my speed with Shaw. But in the last year I get longer and longer stretches (first it was six weeks in Feb-March and then 2 1/2 months from Aug-Oct and now in the last three weeks it has started again)where my torrent upload speed will start very fast when I first boot up my torrent client (500k/sec) and then after about 10 minutes or so it will drop down to 100k/sec and stay like that for the duration. If I then shut down my torrent client for an hour or so and then start it back up it will repeat. I have phoned Shaw and they swear up and down (and the conversation got quite heated) that they are not messing around with my speed so I am wondering if anyone has had this issue before or would know a way to solve it. Thanks.

[BC] Netflix / router fixes issues and cures for those USA titles

Couldn't find a proper Netfix forum so am creating my topic here .. Last month my son found thru the internet the codes for replacing my dns setting thru my LG blueray smart player so I could get and did get the American menu for movies .. It worked great for 30 days . .then I started to get the Cannot connect please come back later error message .. My laptop and cellphone worked but they are only on the Canadian login page ,.. My smart player was the unit that could create and replace the settings thru the menu of my smart player.. I phoned Netflix help three times over three day and they did not fix this but they were more than willing to help me try to fix this .. My problem was I could log into the site and see the menu titles and what I watched in my previous history but when clicked on would not make the connection to their servers .. The help people never ever asked me or advised me that using American menu would not connect me to any of their movies .. even if the title was a Canadian title .. Not once so I presumed that the issue was either my current player or my router settings . .Trouble was in the same room my laptop and cellphone could log in and playback titles , but they were only setup for Canadian titles .. My big 55in TV was the issue as it was connected to my smart settings that where via thru the onboard Netflick program .. Finally I phoned Shaw and they advised me that It is not Shaw that monitors the download but Netflick themselves that blocked me from receiving the signal.. The Shaw tech then gave me the old setting I need for my for my static dns code .. This Fixed the problem and finally after three days of Sorry log back in later ' error message I can now log back in but of course only to the Canadian Menu .. I am going to have to check with my friends to find out what they have that is differ than what I had for 30 days .. as they seem to be able to have this American signal now for well over a year now .......

[BC] Small speed bump

Has anyone else in the lower mainland, or Port Coquitlam area noticed a small speed bump in their internet speeds recently? I have the BB100 package and I noticed it first this morning when downloading a game off of Steam, that it was going 12.5MB/s-12.6MB/s, which for 100Mbit generally you wouldn't expect (due to overhead and what not.) I checked speed tests on speedtest.net and it seems to confirm the slight increase - I'm getting around 109Mbps down/5.5Mbps up, whereas previously it was almost always around 97Mbps down/4.8Mbps up. Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone else noticed this as well, and if it means that possibly network updates are (finally?) happening.

DCX 3400 M Firewire problems

I have the DCX 3400 M. I need to get something off of the hard drive to a computer; it is just a little fluff news story so I doubt it there is any major copy protection on it. I borrowed an iMac running OSX with version 10.6.8 to be exact. It's got a 1.83 Ghz Core 2 Duo and 2G RAM. I am no Mac expert but decided to borrow this because it is supposed to be so much easier with a Mac....not so far. :( I dowloaded the Firewire SDK 26, hooked the computer to the DVR, ran the capture program and hit play on the recording. The recording sped up, had no sound, then eventually pixelated and went black. I still ran the recording just in case it actually worked, but it literally recorded nothing, 0 kb. I did try the obvious reboots and reseating of the cable ends. Has anyone had this happen...and found the fix?

[BC] Inquiry

I am with Telus right now on the Optik 50/10 plan. We are finding that online game play is just horrific due to the latency spikes so I am wondering if it would be better with Shaw? My other question: When we are downloading a file we never go over 1-2 Mbps download speed and uploading we can never go past 200kbps so it has made no difference being on the 50/10 plan. What could we expect with Shaw? Thank you for any input.

Why is Shaw running tracking scripts?

If I type an invalid URL in my browser, I am automatically redirected to assist.shaw.ca, which runs the edgesuite.net script. It apparently is: "network of sites, cookies & other technologies used to track you, what you do and what you click on, as you go from site to site, surfing the web". If Shaw is going to automatically redirect me, it should at least have the courtesy to not run any tracking scripts.

What gateways/modems is Shaw using for its 250 Mbps service?

Here in Toronto Rogers has recently introduced this service. They are using the Hitron 3GN gateway and tons of people are having problems with the device. I see that Shaw how has a 250 Mbps service. So what hardware is Shaw using for their 250Mbps service? This seems to require a 24x8 DOCSIS 3.0 gateway/modem and there aren't too many of those available yet.

Residential 250 vs Business 250

Same house, modems connected to the same line, same computer etc. Residential: [att=1] Business: [att=2] The Business upload is also 16.5 but is not reflected since I have legitament business traffic which i could not disconnect for the purpose of this test. Kinda sucks that they are clearly limiting the residential connection. Although at the same time it gives me some satisfaction that paying $350 a month is not for nothing and that my business connection is getting priority over the kid next door and his torrenting.

[BC] Disconnect/Drops for few seconds every now and then

So here is the down-low on the situation. Basically my internet drops randomly with no recognizable pattern for 5-15 seconds. I am pretty sure it has something to do with packetloss because I ran a program called VisualTraceroute2010 for a whole day connected to a couple domains, (Google, Leagueoflegends.com, youtube, facebook) and when I disconnect and come back my packet loss for each site would spike up too like 10-17%. I also ran multiple ping tests to various website, and the closest Shaw server to me, and this is what I got (http://i.imgur.com/EAhknlO.png). In addition to this It seems you cannot trouble shoo the problem until it happens. My internet service provider has come and installed new cables gave me a brand-new modem which is a (Cisco DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway). They tell me that all the levels on their side is completely fine. I've had one technician come when it happened and it showed clearly on the ping test that it disconnected but only said "Request time out" two time, in which he said shouldn't affect my game play on games at all. I have found multiple threads through Google with people who had the same issue I Will link them so others can read ... (https://community.shaw.ca/thread/5724) (http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r26939954-OOL-Disconnect-Drops-for-few-seconds-every-now-and-then) - This two people seem to be having the exact same issue as me especially the shaw one. For those familiar with what this website is (http://n1.netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/) it analysis your internet giving you information on whats good and bad. This is the notice I got from it during one of my disconnects, I have run this three times during a disconnect and they all day I disconnected for exactly 7.6 Seconds (http://imgur.com/AQcKnUT) so anyone with knowledge on this topic PLEASE help me I am stuck and don't know what to do anymore...I have tried flushing my dns, renewing my IP everything. MY ISP has basically said Fuck you we can't do anything about this your on your own. So now im here and don't know what to do I need an expert. ______________________________________________________________________ I have a wired connection Tried different ethernet cables Ran ping tests to prove that I am disconnecting I have gotten new cables Got my modem replaced Tried a different power-source and new power bar to ensure it wasn't lacking the proper voltage it needed to function Changed my wireless channels Installed new internet drivers for my motherboard Made sure it wasn't just my computer this happens on other comptuer plugged in with another cat 5e directly from the modem. I've been told I am in a low exhaust area but I completely doubt that because at night time like 1am+ there is no disconnecting what so ever so my guess is I am maybe interfering with someone else s signal and my modem is freaking out because of that? I have phone/ Cable installed in my home this happens after my phone/ cable was installed I am pretty sure. I am pretty computer handy i know quite a bit about them on the software and hard ware side, but not alot about networking and reading packets. ______________________________________________________________________ EDIT1: I Am now running PingPlotter And this is what I get when I disconnect (http://imgur.com/9hpHUpk)
