[BC] BB50 disconnecting every hour in vancouver

For the past week or so my internet has been disconnecting every hour on the hour exactly. Last night i went into my routers config page, into the setup -> Lan setup, and changed my client lease time to a week but it still seems to disconnect. What should I do?

I just got Broadband 50

just switched over from Telus to Shaw today. Though i am keeping my Telus line for another month or two in case i am to have issues with Shaw. Right now, my internet is working great, but getting it setup was ridiculous. I was told a tech would be here from 2-4 for the install today, I am very tech savvy but no nothing of cable connections or of the cable lines in my house (i didn't even know that we had any coax lines except for satellite and i thought it was separate/wasn't sure), I had called Shaw and asked if i could have a jack installed and they said yes i could have just 1 installed. when the tech got here it was 1:55, for the first bit he was searching my house for wall outlet coax lines of which he found none and then he said it was stupid that we didn't know where they were. How was it my fault, so i decided to tell him to look at the satellite lines, which ended up working (i showed him the satellite coax line in the beginning and he didn't wanna have anything to do with it he wanted to find a wall jack coax line) so he ends up doing something to the satellite splitter box thingy (which was the first thing i showed him when he got in)and ended up routing a line from that using a satellite line we don't use anymore, it was simply a cable from the satellite receiver sending a duplicate signal of satellite up to my room, so we cut it off and used it for the Shaw, i didn't like this to much, but i had to do it. Once he plugged in the modem, he asked me to test my internet. So i tried it wired to my laptop, wouldn't go, tried flushing dns restarting adapters all that jazz and it would not go( i did this, the tech claimed to know nothing about computers he said he just hooks it up and hes not aloud to touch my laptop). I asked him to try restarting the router, he unplugged it for like 2 seconds and plugged it back in, i just kinda laughed in my head and didn't even try to correct him (even tho i know for a IP flush and a proper power cycle u need to turn it off for about 30 second), then we tried hooking up another macbook, it didnt work for the first 10 minutes, then it randomly did, but else in my house could connect. i should also say during the install of the modem he called someone saying he would be late (probably half caused by his almost late arrival to my house), so i could tell he was in a rush, but as soon as that mac got internet access, he didn't care if any single device had access even tho i did, he basically said ,its hooked up and working, it sais on our line it working, that's my job,he left my to spend about 2 hours alone figuring out how to get my other devices connected, turns out the Shaw model is refusing to connect any more then 1 device. if i restart it and connect my laptop first it works, same with the macbook, same with my xbox, but if i connect multiple it doesn't work, however, if i hook my D ling router up to the 1 port on the Shaw modem, and hook everything up to that like i have now, it works. on my old telus router connected to my d link i could access both devices through each one, example i was plugged into the dlink i could change the settings on that or my telus modem, simply but entering different ip's, because the d-link and shaw modem have same ip, they are both 192.168.0.1, i can not access the shaw router settings. so basically if your gonna send a tech, they should be network AND computer savvy, not just 1 of the 2, that tech was a little embarrassing for Shaws rep if you ask me, but i guess he was just trained to hook it up after all, though i have never had any problems with a telus tech and this guy was grumpy from the minute he walked in my door, and when i said i wasnt happy he was just leaving so quick since i had nothing hooked up, he threatened to take the modem and leave, at first i was extremely anoyed but now that i got everything working i am happy, just felt the story must be told

[BC] Downgraded to High speed and now Dreadfull results

So 3 weeks ago i downgraded from Xtreme ( 25 down), to High speed (20 down) for a student promotion. I've been living in the same place, and when i had xtreme i never had any connection troubles. as soon as we switched i get random timings where my connection is almost non existing. It will take 15 mins to load a page. when i go to some websites during the down time, it tries to install random files from the site. I've tried numerous things on my end: -Reset router/ reset modem -Connect straight from modem to computer (bypassing router) - Reinstalled windows in my machine ( maybe virus was knocking it down). Still the same problem exists. I contacted them now finally they said they will send someone to come take a look. But Im curious if anyone else has had similar trouble or issues

Shaw getting into IPTV?

Over at the shaw careers sections, it appears there are postings for what looks like IPTV positions or a new ip video delivery network...? Noticed one for a systems architect and manager. Interesting move if that is the way they are going. May open up some doors to finally get more HD channels. Anyone see those postings? Hopefully they haven't removed it after this post.

what do these mean?

I have been thinking of switching to Shaw in Maple Ridge. But before I do that I was wondering if anyone has been experiencing any problems with slow speeds in the area.

Fairly simple query, outside of the regular customer information ie, persons name, contact info, what can a Shaw employee see as it pertains to traffic over a cable connection?

[ON] Internet and phone bundle

Does Shaw offer a bundle deal with just internet and phone with out TV? I would like to gather some info if Shaw Cable where to come out to Beamsville so I can move over from Cogeco. If I could make the switch, I would use Shaw Direct for the TV, Shaw cable for the internet and phone. They offer services in Hamilton and in Caistor Centre so it's coming.

Ive traced my ping back to a server in New York state. The path that it takes seems to be the long way around. My path to the server goes from Nanaimo to Vancouver to Edmonton then on to Winnipeg,Montreal, then into New York state.Along the way I have lots of packet loss. At my starting point the packet loss is 100% and in two other spots it's at 15% and 25%. I've traced my signal a few times over the years and most of the time it jumps into the states right out of Vancouver and goes to Seattle then on to New York. When it takes this route I notice a lot more lag. Why would the route change? Can somthing be done about the lag? Thanks DW

[AB] no internet between 10am-1pm for 2 months now

Called Shaw a month ago they said its congestion and its getting fixed, month later and still the same crap but now they say it will be fixed in 2013. Whats the point of me paying for the internet when this is the time i am using it the most. What alternative is there to Shaw in Calgary other then Telus?

[BC] 50mbit plan, speedtesting at 170mbit?

0

I'm not sure what's going on, as I've been a BB50 user for the past year or so. Today speeds have gone crazy and are peaking just above 170mbit on speed tests. Has shaw done some silent upgrade without notifying people? If not, do I call CS in case my account is somehow flagged as the much higher priced ones? I haven't been downloading much of anything this month, so it's definitely under 50gigs total month to date.

[BC] Switching from Telus to Shaw

Over and over again every night same place same time my bandwidth keeps getting cycled up and down through some kind of jinsu schreddar. I complained but theres nothing they can do. I never got the email address they promised me, the never get back to me on my free webspace and overal its been super expensive and ridiculous all the way through. Its like having a bunch of gremlins annoy you , there sensitive you can't complain , feed them after midnight but hundreds of them expect the world of you. Not that I so love being cycled 1.2 to 2.56 spectrum throughout the evening but I dont torrent I dont use it for anything and It seems there is people dangling off my wire with a bunch of tinfoil hats on. My telus phone crackles non stop like I am talking through a tin can and my nearest central office is in burnaby. Lightspeed doesn't even do anything it just says " TELUS IS RESPONSIBLE " for the line speed sort of like owning your own car but someone else insures it puts gas in it drives it you get the picture. Cipherkey seems to be the name on the logo but AEBC.COM does the routing. Its been hell of a experience I wonder how many are flying in this time. While I am all about saving families money but 63 bucks for 2.5 megs that is infrequent as hell and 63 bucks for a phone that sounds like a tin can is obsurd. Telus is the way of the dodo bird, they seem to stick there head in the sand and hope no one notices them unable to provide service , internet phone and service there lines . No fiber But shaw is doing all kinds of work alpha boxes going up like they were fortune cookies in my area. All kinds of money. Telus seems to hand out the numbers shaw maxes them out. What a team what a team. Ridiculous company telus your are quite the laughing stock. " We can't port forward " amazing well my router can I guess yours is special delivered on the short bus. I really would like to live somewhere and have a stable phone and internet for the rest of my life without someone that decides that they will just refuse me service and force me into a situation of imaginable service levels. " We can't switch your phone service " " We dont offer internet in this area " " We still want to get paid for everything we can't do "

ddos attack

i just got ddos from some angry person on xbox, on my old telus connection i would just unplug my modem for 30 seconds restart and i would get a new ip and be good to play as soon as the connection was back up, with this connection, the cisco modem will not grab a new ip, why? i thought im suppose to have a dynamic ip with shaw and i cant get my connection back up been trying over an hour now and also how the heck do i directly connect to the cisco cause i even tried wiring my computer directly to it and typing in the address on the side 192.168.0.1 and i couldnt get to a router or wi fi setup or anything

Is latency better with Shaw?

0

At present I am still with Telus, Optik high speed turbo internet and TV. I find the latency just terrible, ping times swing from 40 ms up to 250 ms when testing to a IP just a few kilometers away, makes online gaming a bust. Is the latency better with Shaw internet?

[AB] Why is shaw trying to save me money?

Hi, I live in Edmonton. I currenly have High Speed Internet and Home Phone Basic from shaw. It costs me 89.95 a month. Shaw has been calling me this month trying to get me to switch to High Speed 10, Personal TV, and Home Phone Basic for 70 a month for three months - then I can cancel the Personal TV and and my bill will end up being $10 less at 79.95 a month. They did say an installer would have to come out and split the three services into three different cables? That's sounds really good - which is why I'm suspicious - why would shaw be calling me, trying to save me money? Has anyone else gone through this or have any idea of why they want to do this? Thanks
