[BC] Netflicks woes ..

Posted a few weeks back on this subject., (http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30333354-BC-Questions-about-streaming-and-my-router-for-Netflicks-smartphones) .,, but now I have a furthur question / request .. Like I said earlier my shaw internet works great during the day .. but in the evening when demand is high my Netflicks buffers., but never during the daytime only after 8 pm, and only on my smart TV for streaming from my router .. Every other day I get numerous requests from Telus to jump ship and come join them and leave Shaw behind .. and I always say no as I am a Shawman and always will be .. But now I am wondering if Telus can give me a better 'streaming' signal for netflicks .,, as they have finished their fiber optic hookups in my neighborhood and have approached me numerous times at my front door for the free conversion over .. ( along with free laptops / ipads and 3 months of free service .. Does Telus have a 90 day guarantee and if not satisfied I can just go back to Shaw?? The number one reason why I don't jump ship is I have the channel menu memorized and will have a hell of a time trying to find what I want on their hopped up menu of the large channel numbers ...

High latency/ping to Shaw router?

Hey everyone! I'm new here :) Firstly, I'm not sure if this is the best forum for this post, please let me know if it isn't! I don't know if this is recent (probably not), but I've been noticing relatively high latency (20ms) between my endpoint and the first Shaw router I can see in the traceroute. My internet speeds are okay (70Mbps/3Mbps on Internet 60). I'm wondering if this is standard latency? I know that from UBC (on the UBC network), ping to a downtown router is only a couple of mills, and ping to SFO from UBC is around 20ms. I live on the UBC campus. Here's a traceroute from my home network to OpenDNS Vancouver: traceroute to resolver1.opendns.com (208.67.222.222), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets 1 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1) 4.312 ms 7.829 ms 10.082 ms 2 * * * 3 rd3st-tge0-12-0-6-1.vc.shawcable.net (64.59.147.245) 32.389 ms 19.667 ms 32.647 ms 4 vanix.opendns.com (206.41.104.40) 13.617 ms 14.408 ms 14.617 ms 5 resolver1.opendns.com (208.67.222.222) 23.864 ms 19.308 ms 30.002 ms And one from UBC to OpenDNS: traceroute to resolver1.opendns.com (208.67.222.222), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets 1 10.20.216.29 (10.20.216.29) 2.039 ms 1.398 ms 1.365 ms 2 142.103.204.138 (142.103.204.138) 1.574 ms 1.853 ms 1.779 ms 3 anguborder-a0.net.ubc.ca (137.82.123.137) 1.703 ms 1.520 ms 1.499 ms 4 345-ix-cr1-ubcab.vncv1.bc.net (134.87.0.58) 2.069 ms 1.919 ms 3.206 ms 5 vanix.opendns.com (206.41.104.40) 1.925 ms 2.142 ms 1.863 ms 6 resolver1.opendns.com (208.67.222.222) 1.575 ms 1.672 ms 2.393 ms Any suggestions, and anyone else having this issue (if it is an issue to begin with)?

https://community.shaw.ca/docs/DOC-6200quote:At Shaw, we continue to focus on upgrading our network to support a superior experience through programs such as the Digital Network Upgrade. Through these ongoing network upgrade efforts, we are now able to provide an improved Internet experience by providing faster Shaw Go WiFi speeds and faster in-home upload speeds. Starting December 1, 2015, our Shaw Go WiFi speeds will be up to six times faster. At the same time, we're giving in-home upload speeds a substantial increase as well. These changes apply to customers subscribed to Internet 30 or above, while service levels for plans below Internet 30 will remain unchanged. Check out the links below to find more information! [AB] Shaw showed up and took my SB6120

Shaw randomly showed up at our door to replace our modem. They said our SB6120 would stop working in a few days and they were upgrading it to a DOCSIS 3.1 modem. I never had any problems with the SB6120 and it was a great standalone modem. It turns out the "DOCSIS 3.1" modem they replaced it with was some refurbished smelly old DPC3825. What the heck? I'd consider that a downgrade. The thing has already dropped connections on me twice after a hour of use (in bridge mode). Has shaw showed up to take anyone else's SB6120's. Is there any truth that they'll stop working on shaw's network soon?

Corus Ent. to buy Shaw Media to help pay for Wind Mobile (Shaw Mobile)

so Corus Entertainement is purchasing the Media arm of Shaw, not the entire company fiy, just the Shaw media division which includes Global Toronto, HGTV, Lifetime, etc.. Now when watching Global at the end of the show they usually put an ident that says "your watching Global, part of Shaw' but that should change soon to "your watching Global, part of Corus"

I have a DPC3825 modem. I believe it bonds 8 channels downstream and 4 upstream. Is it able to select the least congested 8 of the 20-24 channels that are available to a 24x8 modem like the Hitron or is it limited to certain channels?

Shaw's "Skinny" Cable Package

$

Just a little over 3 weeks to go before Shaw and the other cable companies are required to introduce so-called "skinny" cable packages that sell for under $25/month. They also must offer either smaller bundles and/or the option to buy channels individually. It's probably not surprising but there has been almost total silence from all providers as to what they'll be offering and for how much. http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/skinny-basic-pick-and-pay-crtc-1.3428776 I wouldn't be surprised if consumers don't see any promotion whatsoever until March 1 and even then it will only be information available on their website and nowhere else. We don't watch much cable TV here but there are a few stations we like to watch and of course they span packages: CBC Newsworld, CTV News Channel, TSN, and TCM. I'm hoping the CRTC's rules mean I can get those channels at a reasonable price which would make giving up even my grandfathered Personal TV + BB100.

Shaw has finally reproduced buffer bloat problem

Ever since the Upload speed increase i have had horrible buffer bloat problems as i posted here https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30447521-A-new-Shaw-high-increased-upload-speeds-for-packages-30-and-up and since that was the only thing that changed at the time i assumed it had something to do with the problem and even if it was not it was not my end as i didn't changed anything and i tested 2 different modems. Well after talking to Shaw for a while finally i got some good news they have duplicated the problem and they are working on fixing it. From Corbin Hi, We've been able to duplicate this now, and are pursuing the issue with our equipment vendor. Looks like the buffering occurs when you are maxing your download speed, the CMTS will then buffer packets for up to 2 seconds. Not a modem issue as it turns out, and not related to the contract boosts. Related to new equipment.
