[ALL] Is Shaw misleading customers in terms of locations of their agents?

Perhaps it's a coincidence. During one day (today) I have called Shaw repeatedly on issues (long story) and each time I receive an agent with a heavy Indian accent stating they are from random places like Brampton, Charlottown and more. Now, this wouldn't be an issue IF they actually had a solid grasp of speaking and understanding english. For the most part, all these agents were reciting scripted responses.

XB6 Modem and MOCA filters

I want to move my XB6 modem (internet only service) to the garage where my Arris Gateway TV Box was and I have a mixture of "regular" outlets and MOCA filtered outlets in my house because I used to have a mixed Gateway/DCX setup. Am I right that the XB6 needs to be on an outlet with a MOCA filter (which the old Gateway outlet will be)? I have a 2nd choice location which is an outlet w/o MOCA filtering.

[TV] Anyone having problem with Shaw Direct Satellite TV?

Most stations show a dialogue box that says receiver may need a refrest to restore programming. Tried 3 times with the self serve refresh, but nothing happened. This started "out-of-the-blue"; everything was working fine earlier today. Tried calling Shaw support but was disconnected while waiting for agent. Tried chat, but after 15 minutes with no response, I exited. I don't know if the issue is on Shaw's end, but if they're experiencing heavier than normal call volume, then maybe that's why. So, that's why I ask if anyone else is having issues.

[AB] My new Shaw contract

Hi, so my old Shaw contract was due August 19 this year and my bill next month was gonna cost like $240 so I spoke to Shaw chat today and asked if I could renew my contract early and they did it. So now I am paying $216 a month for Total Tv, Giga Internet, and Home Phone with voice mail and that stuff. My old bill was around $205 a month so now I am paying about $10 or bit more bucks a month for more service. Now I get a lot more sports channels as before I never got Sportsnet and all those tennis channels, I still get movie channels and documentary so a few more channels and my news channels, but I dropped Filipino tv bundle as it was $20 dollars by itself and I might order it again when it's cheaper. ABS-CBN in the Philippines was getting dropped anyways. Here is my speed test: https://shaw.speedtestcustom.com/result/bc36f150-c13b-11ea-aaec-17586a9d3ca1 They discounted stuff you can see on my contract so it seems like I am saving but this package I have is the best they offer for now so I guess I am fully loaded with Shaw now. I could order more Tv channels but eh mostly just reruns anyways

Shaw Increase Upload Speeds to 100mbps For Fibre + Plans

September 2020 Upload Speed Increase Starting September 10th 2020, Fibre+ 150, 300, 750, and Gig will all see a major increase in their upload speeds. Fibre+ 150 will increase to 15 Mbps, Fibre+ 300 to 30 Mbps, Fibre+ 750 to 75 Mbps, and Fibre+ Gig to an amazing 100 Mbps. These updates will happen automatically for eligible customers at no extra cost. From what I can tell, you need to be on a DOCSIS 3.1 modem so if you have a Hitron or Cisco, you won't get it. Grandfathered plans will not be eligible. EXISTING CUSTOMERS will get it at the end of September while while new customers can start getting it now.

[BC] Surf Internet: blocking external access

I'm the customer of "Surf Intenet" in BC, which is a reseller of Shaw. And for a few days, my external access seems to be blocked. I have few websites on ports 80 & 443 (NextCloud) and StorJ which generates about 1TB monthly traffic. And now all connections from outside are timed out: curl: (28) Failed to connect to ****: Connection timed out Even ICMP pings are not coming back. I called "Surf Internet". They said: we are not blocking anything. I can't call the Shaw, because I'm not their customer. I tried a new router. Nothing changed. Any idea, what's the issue might be? What else I can try? I can only think of switching to the new provider...

Are Shaw BlueCurve remotes affected by this vuln?

https://www.guardicore.com/2020/10/wareztheremote-turning-remotes-into-listening-devices/ Posted this in https://www.dslreports.com/forum/security https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r32900595-Infosec-pwned-Comcast-s-voice-remote-to-snoop-on-household-chitchat originally. While I'm not prone to Chicken Little, but given the Xfinity XR11 remote is identical to the Shaw BlueCurve remote, does that mean this vuln could potentially affect Shaw as well? https://www.urcsupport.com/urc_product/xfinity-xr11-voice-remote/ -- Xfinity XR11 remote https://support.shaw.ca/t5/tv-articles/bluecurve-tv-remote-control/ta-p/4975 -- Shaw BlueCurve remote Anyone in Shaw with more knowledge about this able to comment? Regards

Transfer to VoIP

Has anyone migrated an old landline to a VoIP provider and also which provider are you using? Parents have had a TELUS/Shaw landline for 25+ years and rarely use it anymore, however the number itself is valuable as it attached to lots of records and accounts. They rarely ever dial out though. Was thinking just transfer the line to a VoIP provider and forward it to one of their cell numbers to save some $$.

[ALL] Technicolor Modem - can't manually select Channels 7 to 11

$

On 2.4 Ghz, Channels 7 to 11 greyed out and no option to select even when changing the mode eg. 802.11 g/n and 802.11n. Also, changing the Channel Bandwidth toggline 20 or 20/40 doesn't help. This would not normally be an issue but I'm in a very congested area and the better channels (using a network app) for whatever reason seem to be greyed out on with modem. Is there a way to fix?

I cruise the shaw site regularly and saw this https://support.shaw.ca/t5/internet-articles/equipment-info-fibre-gateway-2-0-xb7/ta-p/29898 Looks like the XB7 is rolling out in Calgary. Model #CGM4331SHW by Technicolor Interestingly there is a single 2.5Gb port, could be useful for bridgers.
