I've got an acquaintance in a high-rise that's having broadband issues. I'm assuming it's related to the crowded Wi-Fi in the building on the 2.4 GHz band. I'm going to get them a stand-alone 5 GHz router and place the cable modem in bridge mode. I'd also like to swap the DOCSIS 2.0 modem (SMC 8014WN) for a DOCSIS 3.0 device to nip any possible congestion issues in the bud. I'm not sure if they're on the 10Mb or 25Mb profile. I know in the past, Shaw wouldn't swap the modems. Does anyone know if they will now do it in 2014?
