We're switching back to Shaw after a couple of years with Telus, and I'm trying to figure out our TV configuration options. The main question is: do the portals have to be connected to coax, or can they connect to the gateway via ethernet or WiFi?
One of the things we liked about Telus Optik TV was that since it's IPTV it's very comfortable working over ethernet and WiFi. We could place our portals anywhere we had ethernet or WiFi, and conversely we could use the ethernet port on the main PVR as an internet access point via the coax connection.
I'm trying to figure out if Shaw has yet released any such functionality for the Gateway and portals. All the information I could find online goes back to the original Gateway release of 2011 and basically says "no ethernet" and "no WiFi", presumably because of the technical restriction that it isn't IPTV. Is that still true? Has Shaw released any new capability in this area in the past 5 years, or is it still coax-only?
