[BC] will i get cable slowdown?

I want to switch from Telus to Shaw due to my roommate always "hogging" our bandwidth. The most Telus can offer in my rural area is obviously not enough. The main reason I've stayed away from Shaw is my friends back in the day would suffer awful slowdowns during peak times, but it seems shaw is offering new packages now. My brother just got the 50mb one. I live in town, and he lives in an even less dense area (with no slow downs so far), will I suffer any slow downs? Does this depend on the plan? Like 10-25 is shared but 50 and up is allll your houses?
