[AB] modem swap??

ok so i just moved to medicine hat and we got shaw 150 installed. this cisco AIO modem is a piece of junk. the puma 6 flaw is very apparent. am I able to use a TPIA modem that is on the approved list or am I forced to use this piece of garbage? will shaw swap this out on request at a local store? i am this close to switching to TPIA to get away from this modem or to telus.
