[ON] Shaw speeds Horrible in Sault Ontario

$

I have the 25 meg plan, and recently started getting awful speeds as low as 4 or 5 meg down.. this morning it was 2 meg down with a faster upload at 2.5. I reset the modem to factory defaults , as I always do when it gets that bad. the speed improved to 20 meg. but it goes down fast from one minute to the next. I have nothing on the shaw modem, no banwidth drains on my laptop. I was told by Shaw that they have terrible speed problems in my neighborhood and maby I would have to downgrade my Internet plan as they could not guarantee to provide my current plan. They can not fix their network because my municipality has such tight regulations on their expansion here in sault ste marie Ontario. I cant believe that. 73.00 a month and they can not provide the internet to me. I will try exchanging the modem soon, worth a try. I do have the newer modem available but it isn't working or shaw internet now goes up and down in speed .

Does shaw use UBE installers in kelowna?

I currently work in Ontario as a salary tech for the big red machine. I want to relocate to the Okanogan region. I'm wondering if there are any shaw installers out there that could give me some info on how much they make a year in that region. Also, does shaw only have ube installers or do they have salary service techs as well? If you don't feel comfortable posting in public please pm me. Thanks.

Shaw's upload speed is ridiculously and insanely SLOW & sluggish.

My experience: Testing site: Google Photos, YouTube, baidu.com WangPan, and 360 YunPan. Hong Kong: PCCW HKT (300Mb Internet Plan) - upload average 2.8Mb/s; Beijing Founder Broadband (50Mb Plan) - upload average 1.8~2.3Mb/s; Calgary Shaw 30Mb Plan - upload average 325KB/s. Price: HK PCCW HKT (HKD271/month with Cable TV); Beijing Founder Broadband RMB76/month, Calgary Shaw CAD73.00+tax/month. Shaw's upload speed is ridiculously and insanely SLOW & sluggish. Miss Hong Kong's Internet speed so much!!! (in Hong Kong, you even can subscribe 1GB/s (1000Mb/s) speed Internet plan. They are all optical fiber directly connects to your home!)

I know that some ISPs such as TekSavvy have been offering IPV6 connectivity to users. Do you know when Shaw will start supporting IPV6?

SBG6782 vs DPC3848 Pro/Cons?

Shaw tech came by today to install my net. I asked him what the difference is between the two and he told me that 3848 had better/stronger wi-fi. Is that true? What other benefits does each one have over the other?

Upgraded modem, great results.

I upgraded to the Cisco modem from the SMC one. I am on 100 Mbps and it seems they are pushing me to the 120 plan even though I am grandfathered on the 100 plan now. I was having a lot of issues with peak times and random slow downs. I phoned in and asked if there was congestion in my area. Tech said no and immediately offered a modem upgrade. Now when I run shaw's speed test I get a *very* smooth speed profile, varies less then 5 Mbps on a 120-125 Mbpstest result. Was the SMC screwing stuff up that badly? This new modem is great so far! Can anyone explain what was happening there, for curiosity's sake?

[BC] Questions about streaming and my router for Netflicks smartphones ...

Have a situation that garners a good forum post here .. I have a Blue Ray Player thast receives my wifi from my router which is a dual band DIR850L D-link model.. not a cheap one, but not the very best either.. but it does have a dual networking of 2.4mhz and 5 ghz bands .. Until I received my recent New Modem from Shaw recently( august 2015) .. Netflicks endured a lot of 'buffering' lost signal from the other room in my apartment .. I know that I could sting 50 feet of cat5 wire and directly hotwire the two units together for Netflicks to work better . .but the latest modem from shaw fixed this ! . .I now have an 80 % success rate of streaming - compared to about 30 / 40 % before ., BUT a new problem has popped up now . .the bandwidth from my dlink router to my Netflicks streaming seems to 'suck the air dry' when I want to use my smart phone in the same room ., what happens is- web site will appear (probably cashed)., but can't pursue any links within that web site ' it just hangs' . .so changed my smartphone settings to 'forget' about this current network ( my own) . and just use the default cell phone coverage for its own network ( telus) and therefore am using data I have to pay for on account of my cell phone monthly package .. When Netflicks gets turned off for the night the smart phones work properly again .. I have the router network channels set up for channel 11 for 2.4 network and 161 for the 5 ghz .. Initially I had presumed that by using 2.4 ghz for netflicks.. and using 5ghz for my smart phone would fix this but it still didn't work .. My Dlinkstaff support has set up my router the way they feel should be set up , but have not spoken to a Shaw rep about this for fear 1. of the long wait on the help line ..2. the failure to understand what it is I am looking for .., and 3. the rep possibly suggesting that either the router or the LG blue ray player are at fault and not their own Shaw equipment . .My Shaw account is set for the 30MB download package .. not the expensive 100 , bu5t not the cheap 10-15 MB service either .. Ideas?? except for the cat5 wire would be appreciated .. Thanks !!

Any idea what type of monitoring shaw does on their fibre gateway managed Internet? I have used Telus managed Internet before and it seems like they monitor for much more. Packet loss, latency etc.

Currently on Telus Optik tv and internet 25. Was looking at switching to Shaw. We have a Shaw biz account at work. Shaw recently updated the account with a new wifi modem and to 60 internet. Ran some speed tests and was shocked by the results. Ran the Shaw speed test that used a server in Winnipeg. Got 12 down and 2 up. (Shaw speed test used Ookla. I then switched to the Ookla site and ran a speed test to a Vancouver Shaw site. Got a bit better result of 30down and 2 up. Still much lower than what i should be getting. Is this normal for Shaw? Just ran a test on Telus to a Shaw winnipeg site and got 26.91 down and 6.77 up. This is not a shaw bash post, i honestly was going to switch but the internet speed results turned me off of that idea. I have heard that shaw speeds could be slower but did not expect to see it THAT bad. That is unacceptable.
