Someones got to pay for all that cord cutting, that does not exist anywhere in the World, says the Cable TV Bosses http://www.shaw.ca/Customer-Bulletins/January-2015-Internet-Rate-Adjustment/ January 2015 Internet Rate Adjustment Effective January 1, 2015, Shaw is increasing regular monthly rates on all Internet plans to support continued investment in building and supporting the Internet experience you need now and in the future. Shaw's My Account Page Revamped

Just took a look at Shaw's shiny new My Account page, just in time for Shomi. First impressions are that it looks much better than the old version, a little more intuitive, a little less "last century". Nothing new from what I have seen so far, just laid out better. Looks like they've made it easier to sign up for new services (including Shomi).

Shaw Cable guide scrambled

A couple days ago we noticed the guide on the Shaw box does not match the channels, I have multiple boxes and it appears to have happened to a few of the boxes. Any ideas on why, I have cycled power but did not make a difference.

[BC] Connection issues (various) - last week and a half

My torrent download speeds are up and down despite great seeding. I'm on the 25mbps plan. I get speeds hovering between 1.8MB - 300KB/s. It goes up and down infrequently. Upload is trash (it is being shaped) except during the hours of 2:00am-6:00am where it doesn't seem to be getting shaped. In DoTA, I never used to have ping issues. Normally it's around 35ms. Lately though, it will be about 35ms, but then randomly, it will spike up to about 500-1s with 30% packet loss. Nobody else seems to be experiencing this. Would a reset of all of my routers/switches help? Is Shaw tinkering with my connections? What's your experience on issues like this? Local machinery problems or Shaw intervention. I am really close to switching to Telus.

[BC] Add personal modem (DOCSIS Mini-PIM for Juniper SRX firewall)

I have a Juniper SRX 210 and able to buy the DOCSIS Mini-PIM module for a reasonable price. It would be a fun project to setup, but was wondering if Shaw would allow me to add the modem to my account.

Shaw Usage Monitor problems?

0

For the past two years or so, Shaw's usage monitor and my DD-WRT have been "satisfactorily" correlated. Never identical, but within, say, 5 percent of one another by the end of the month, once the shaw meter catches up. This month I am alarmed to see that the Shaw meter is a good 15 to 20 percent higher than my dd-wrt (which I have NOT messed with at all during the period). I won't know the exact variance until December 2 or 3 (catchup time), but I am concerned nonetheless. Should I be? Have any of you out there experienced similar issues lately? TIA Waldstein in the peg

Does Shaw charge for overage or otherwise penalize you?

Hi there, I'm moving into a new place while in Shaw territory for a little bit. They provide me with a Shaw connection (I believe Business Internet 15). The cap on that plan is a little low for me, and I certainly don't want the management paying for my usage or getting yelled at by Shaw. Shaw mentioned that I can grab a modem and hook it up myself, which I'll definitely do if they're enforcing caps. I've seen mixed reports. Some saying they don't say a word unless you go TB's over, others say they've only been over slightly and they get a call. I'm guessing it's still node dependant. Curious if anyone has any information on usage caps? Thanks!

(Rant) I hate emailing Shaw customers

...because it's a coin toss whether or not I get this back: 554 Your connection from 199.188.200.88 has been rejected due to poor reputation.  I was replying to an email, from a Shaw customer, with valid References: and In-Reply-To: headers. I'm on a Telus IP (my mail server isn't) and my email contained no links or anything else that might be considered spam. My mail server's IP is also not listed in any of the 90 blacklists that MXToolbox.com checks. A few years ago when we used Shaw email at work we discovered we couldn't receive email from the ~10% of our customers who use Yahoo. They received this exact bounce message - sometimes. Sometimes, our incoming mail just disappeared. Shaw acknowledged the problem, but refused to fix it, and seemed unconcerned when we stopped using them. Is anyone aware of a way an individual customer can whitelist a specific IP?

Response from the rep a known issue and no eta on a fix? for the record this has been ongoing for over 2 years now. "No prob. Regrettably the situation hasn't really changed since our past conversations. There is still an isolated issue in your area which is causing this problem. I can definitely understand your concern and frustration given how long this has been going on for. It is a problem we're aware of and tracking, but there isn't a firm ETA as to when it will be resolved at this point." Shaw internet speed package changes Jan 2015

Shaw in January(?Effective January 6?) is changing the speed with new tiers for new subscribers. Current subscribers will be grandfathered. Leaked this morning(Dec 16 2014) and Shaw damage control is ongoing. Reddit threads Leaker thread https://pay.reddit.com/r/shaw/comments/2pf4t2/internet_downgrades/ Shaw is downgrading the internet packages. 90 dollars/month used to get you 100mbps. Come January it will only be 60mbps. 50mbps for $80 will now be 30mbps. 25mbps for $60 will now be 15mbps. 10mbps for $55 will become 5mbps for $50. Appears that the fastest upload will be 3mbps Graph of new tiers and Shaw profits with it. https://pay.reddit.com/r/canada/comments/2pgb3w/shaw_starting_january_6th_all_new_internet_is_40/ I don't see yet what the GB per month is. . Don't change your service speeds after Dec 31 2014 or you will lose your now grandfathered plan and get knocked down to the new tiers. . Shaw in the media for price increase: Price increase leads to more investment in the network for more capacity. Shaw behind the scenes: New users get almost half the speed for the same price, to avoid investment in the network for increased capacity. The Shaw spin on the new packages. It's not a downgrade! It's an upgrade!!! https://community.shaw.ca/docs/DOC-3963 Beginning in January 2015, we'll be introducing a new lineup of Internet services for new customers. These packages do not affect current customer subscriptions, but existing customers will be welcome to upgrade when the packages are launched. These new services will introduce faster download speeds and greater value for customers who have our most popular tiers by providing more value per Mbps (Megabits Per Second) download rate. HS 10 improves to Internet 15 HS 25 improves to Internet 30 BB 50 improves to Internet 60 We’re pleased to be introducing a new entry-level Internet service, Internet 5, which is well suited to customers who use their Internet for simple web browsing and email. We will be following the launch of these 4 packages with a fifth tier of service (to be available in the near future) for high volume internet users - Internet 120. Details on this premium tier will be made available in the new year. As always, all of our Internet packages include access to more than 50,000 access points on Shaw Go WiFi across Western Canada. Poor Service - South Surrey BC

0
0
I've been a Shaw customer for over a decade. Last week my wife and I moved in to our brand new condo in South Surrey. We moved only 8 blocks from where we used to live in White Rock. Service in White Rock was always consistent and fast, but since the move to our new home the downstream throughput fluctuates massively from 4mbps up to 18 mbps..not quite the high speed 25 package that I'm on. Upstream however is very consistent around 2.5 to 2.75 mbps. Tonight I called support and sat on hold for 45 minutes and spoke to a rather apathetic person who said that the node is congested, there is nothing that they can do, and my only options at this time are to "downgrade to a lower speed package" or "change to another provider"...not exactly what I was hoping to hear as I work from home frequently and require a stable connection. I asked if he had any timeframe for correcting the congestion issues and was told that he has no idea, could be 6 months to a year...that is just fantastic. Anyone else in South Surrey experiencing similar issues or is it just me?
