Hello all...
I've got a newb question hopefully some more seasoned telo techies can help me with.
To give you some background, I'm not a total newb, i've connected dozens of data jobs (wiring, terminations, punch down and keystones, rack installation, etc), I'm just new to the telco side of things. My profession is low voltage security installations and I've started doing data and telecom in the past few months as well.
I've got a client I'm working with doing his data setup for his new business, since I'm running his data lines he's also asked me to handle his voice as well. He's got Shaw Business phone. The Shaw modem is on his wall and is properly connected to the demarc on the wall. I can see where Shaw ran 4 pairs of wire from the modem to the demarc, presumably for him to have up to 4 lines. If it were a simple single phone in the business no problem, I'd do as I've done in the past with the phone line from the burg panel, simply punch down the blue pair into the point on the demarc where the blue pair match up. The problem is I've run about 10 voice lines throughout his business that go to different jacks throughout the place. He's not using a PBX and has provided his own 2 line analog telephones. He wants to have phones throughout key locations in his business.
I know, without the PBX if he picks up the phone at point A and someone is on the phone at point B he'll join the conversation. He knows that and is fine with that, all he's going to use is one voice line and one fax line for the business. Where I'm stuck though is trying to figure how or where I punch down all 10 lines without it looking like a giant rats nest of wire. Am I missing something in the process? Does he need a PBX or a structured cable cabinet?
Any help is greatly aprecieated.
