[AB] Shawbiz webmail Security certificate error

0
0
Hello, I am having a problem logging into Shaw's business webmail (webmail.shawbiz.ca) or (webmail.shawcable.com). I am getting an invalid security certificate from the sites. I can only access the business webmail from these sites, Shaw.ca's webmail seem to only be for residential customers. This happened last year around the same time and I had to make an exception for the site. I can still access my email through outlook. I need to know if this is happening to other people, or if my computers (it is happening on multiple computers, on different ISP's) have been compromised, or if shaw's connection has been. Or if this is even a legit site, I was told by shaw to use these sites in the past to access my account information and webmail. Without the https I get a 403 forbidden error, and with I get an invalid certificate. The https is added automatically when webmail.shawbiz.ca is typed into the URL bar. I have deleted the old certificate, cleared my cache and site preferences to no avail. Thank you

New Shaw hookup; curious about provided Cisco DPC3825

Hey guys! Forgive me if I show ignorance here with this question: I was given the Cisco DPC3825 for a new 20Mb hookup (promotion right now). In hooking things up to my network, and replacing my trusty Netgear wireless router with this Cisco (I was on Telus, with just a plain old Speedtouch modem with no wifi), I find that I can assign static IP's and gateway to devices internally, as I am used to, but assigning the static DNS server to the Cisco IP (192.168.1.1) does not work? So, example would be for Device 1: IP = 192.168.1.2 Subnet = 255.255.255.0 Gateway = 192.168.1.1 (Cisco modem/router) DNS = 192.168.1.1 (does not work!) In fact, what I have had to do is look at the Shaw assigned DNS servers within the Cisco interface, and assign those DNS servers manually to each internal network device if I want it to access the internet... Is it normal that this Cisco modem/router does not smoothly respond to DNS requests sent to it by devices on its internal IP? Again, every single router/modem I have ever used, whether Shaw or Telus or whatever...has always been just fine with assigning devices connected to it its internal IP as DNS, and thereafter DNS resolves fine on those devices... Help me out here fellas...am I on drugs or what?

Shaw reps: questions about internet packages

0

There are 3 packages in the broadband 100 tier: broadband 100: 500GB monthly cap, broadband 100+: 750GB monthly cap, unlimited 100: unlimited My questions are as follows: 1. Suppose I have broadband 100, and I consistently go over the monthly cap, what would happen? After my ignoring Shaw's warnings, would I be automatically upgraded to either broadband 100+ or unlimited 100 depending on my usage? 2. Suppose that I was automatically upgraded from broadband 100 to broadband 100+ due to consistently breaching the 500GB cap, and for the ensuing month my usage falls below 500GB, would I then be automatically downgraded to the original broadband 100 that I singed for? TIA.

[BC] Shaw Phone options

First off I was wondering where a phone customer might see a log of how much Long Distance time they have currently used in a month. I can not seem to find any information through a search of shaw site and nothing shows in our phone portal or customer pages for it. I would think this is a standard thing that should be available and even show what numbers were phoned with a time. Otherwise it is totally unfair to the customers. Secondly I was wondering about fixing our phone portal pages. I had already once mentioned this in a rep email but all they did was turn on our call waiting and never did anything about fixing the missing tabs in the phone portal. All we get in the phone portal is the basic first tab with 1-900 #'s etc and voicemail settings (which I have disabled). No other tabs like being able to turn on/off other features (like the call waiting) show. Lastly how long does it usually take for the friends program to show our extra features. It seems to have accepted just fine but the web traffic page does not show the extra 50Gb after a couple weeks nor has any other sings appeared like emails for special offers. Thanks for any help

[MB] Why is my internet so slow?

I am trying to download Yellowdog 6.2 DVD a free linux Distro and can't seem to get it going. I started a torrent now for nearly a day and a half and it wont start. I just got shaw internet but so far I am extremely disappointed at my speeds the wife is furious with me. She threatened if I dont spend less time with the computer and my imaginary domainer friends she going to leave me. However I really want this program and can't seem to download it. So slow I and it wont load is there anything I can do? As well I noticed that between 6pm - 11pm every day my speed goes from around 14-16MBS of the 20MBS plan to around 1-4 during these peak hours every day. Is this just something prone with shaw? Every day its as slow or slower than my dsl package which had twice the upstream and about the same download during these times and the latency was better. Overall I am really unhappy. I have the business package too and I thought business was suppose to be reserved and faster? I dont know any suggestions? Will it improve? Any Dnu updates planned for winnepeg? Or should I just shut this all down and forget it and just go back to residential service I had years back. Maybe this business plan is more trouble than its worth and causing problems. I can't see any of shaws pointers two to western canada and worried what this plan is doing. Is it causing problems is it me? lol what if anything can be done about it. Anyway any advice? Thanks, Phil Lopez

[MB] Never have I been more dissapointed in shaw

This is attrocious speeds 1.68 megs on the Broadband 50 business plan? What the r h double e hockey sticks do these guys do all day. Its 11:30pm at night you would figure everyone would be sleeping connections all relaxed on a sunday and everything would be capable of max capacity. But My 8 channel double bonding 4 upstream cisco 8527X is maxed out. I am sick of this its been dam near 5 months now and every flipping day after 6pm this network goes to the dogs. Its like a wrestler 900 pounds and once he falls down he can't get back up. At least hogan back in the day would wrestle get beat up outside the ring and make it back in to finish up the match at least but shaw seems out for the count once the rubber hits the road and this bad boy is in the business customers hands. No tech support to speak of I call in and they just tell me the F*IN modem is busted and they will send me out another one. Its all of about 1 ounze I feel like looking at it will hurt its feelings and it will break. I dont know. Time to start doing something with my life productive not staring at this narrow @ss pipe all day. Sheeet I give up 5 months man! Unacceptable. Unacceptable its just not good enough I want what I am paying for. What a pile of crap this cisco is. I need a real modem one with hair on it a good 2 pounds at least one that is 4 times as big as a brick phone . I dont know what to say I am just disgusted with this.

Shaw's 50/3 vs Telus 50/10

Has anyone had a chance to compare Shaw's 50/3 vs Telus 50/10 package, and can you chime in. I am on Shaw's bb50 plan, and noticed Telus has a similar package, but with a Monster upload speed. When ever shaw gets to rolling out there upgrade. I believe there 50 package will only receive a 5mbps bump from 3. So I am pretty curious sense this is in my area.

Our records indicate the Shaw network was down for over 8 hours last night. Down: 03/05/2013 21:52 MDT Up: 03/06/2013 05:08 MDT Any one know what happened?

Viewing My Usage/ this can be deleted

so im around the one month mark for my new shaw connection, about a week ago i was wondering what my first months usage was like so i went to the shaw website made an account and signed in to see it no problem, at the time it seemed to work fine and i remember it showed my usage around 200 gigs. i checked a few days later and noticed the period in wich the data usage was in was change (dates said different things) and i also noticed it was upto about 230 gigs the second time, at this time i called shaw on the phone and made sure when my usage period was (between what dates i had to use my first months 400gigs), he explained the usage ended march 1st, and when i looked on the site it said feb 2 to march 1 as the dates my data was used between, so i assumed my new month would start and it would start recording my new data wrong i go to the site it sais the period for my data usage is now feb 5 to march 4, and it shows about 300 gigs, i wish it seperated the months into periods with dates better and didnt move those dates around, i can barely get a grip on what my usage is 1 question i have is is all shaw users usage period the same? or is the day i signed up the day it starts

[AB] email down

email has been down for 8 hours. Problems happen but surely with all of the resources at Shaw's disposal they could post a message on their website or be a little more forthcoming on their voice mail. Some people still count on email to conduct business. Your response is little more than an Air Canada shrug. :(

getting the most out of bb50 or more via wifi

ok, so i get 46-48mb wired consistently, wireless is a bit less consistent, im running my dir 655 with qos off, only on wireless n, with the channel width to 20/40 auto, using all n devices to connect macbook pro- seen it hit from 20-45, usually around 30-35, just tested and it hit 40.5, earlier it wasn't wanting to go above 30, on my dlink router page it shows the device with a rate or 130m which im assuming means its a 130mb connection in 11n with 100% signal strength, so why cant i atleast get the full 46-48 i get wired hp pavilion dv6 seen it from 5-45, usually between 10-30, just tested 3 times hit 24, 10, then 29.5, earlier it was holding a rate of 130 and i got a speed test around 45 megs, now while the mac is connected and not even active on the network it is showing 65-78m, dont know why its goin up and down, mode is 11n, signal 100%, ps originally i couldnt get this computer to hit 30 untill today i turned the channel width to 20/40 and to wireless n only instead of ng i dont know if these r normal wireless losses, or if i could be using better hardware/software router combinations, seems like if i had 1 wireless device connected, it might perform better then with multiple, tho my router should be able to handle a few small connections, and even when i test with the macbook or the dv6 as the only computer on the network, the wireless tests are still inconsistent, i figured in this day and age we would have some pretty solid wireless technology, but im still having trouble getting a steady wireless connection, aside from the fact my apple tv has always showed a rate of 65M in wireless N with a 100% signal strength, and hasnt lagged since i have made these changes maybe i should try connecting to the cisco wireless to compare, but its in bridge mode and i feel this would be a huge pain in the ass

Shaw lost some emails

Somehow this wound up on Slashdot... http://tech.slashdot.org/story/13/03/11/0214233/massive-email-crash-hits-canadian-isp-shaw http://www.theprovince.com/Shaw+Internet+customers+arms+over+lost+emails+during+service+interruption/8074676/story.html#ixzz2NByDhkWS Shaw email customers are scrambling after an interruption of Shaw’s email services Thursday led to millions of emails being deleted. About 70 per cent of Shaw’s email customers were affected when the company was troubleshooting an unrelated email delay problem and an attempted solution caused incoming emails to be deleted, a spokesman told The Sunday Province. Shaw has about 1.9 million Internet subscribers across Canada, with the majority in Western Canada. Emails were deleted for a 10-hour period between 7:45 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. Thursday, although customers did not learn about the problem until Friday, and only then by calling customer service or accessing an online forum for Shaw Internet subscribers. Shaw promised to email affected customers some time over the weekend with a list of deleted messages and details such as sender, subject and time sent. The actual content of the emails, however, is unrecoverable.I don't use Shaw, but I have to admit, that's pretty sucky. -- Myth: It's only fair to pay for quality first-run movies. Fact: Most movies shown on cable get two stars or less and are repeated ad nauseum.

I spoke with Shaw today and they mentioned that they will no longer be offering any type of student discount going forward, after the current term expires. Has anyone heard of this as well?

[AB] BB50 and shaw a waste of time if you want to use netflix?

0

Well here goes. I moved into a house a couple months ago and got shaw BB50 in st.albert (by edmonton) I wanted to get this over telus because of the higher speeds since the main form of entertainment for my wife and I is netflix. Now the problem started right away, it was almost impossible to get HD on my 360, my computer, and good quality on our phones. My 360 is hard wires, so are our computers. Now When i run speedtests the speed is always really good, heck, the other day i was downloaded a game off of steam at over 6 megs/s for about an hour. Netflix on the other hand only gets the lowest quality, didn't matter if the cisco router was in bridged mode or not, hooked up to my router, or hooked directly to the cosco router. Quality is crap. Now netflix and shaw blame each other, depends on who i talk to people try to help me out, but in the several times i have called obviously i have had complete muppets from both sides. I have read about this and have heard people talking about this, but the only thing that makes sense is that shaw is throttling netflix, plain and simple. I have an internet that averages about 44 mbit/s on speedtests and can't get past the LOWEST quality... While in my old place that had telus where i averaged 16 mbit/s I could easily get HD 85% of the time. I don't know how much clearer it could be. But unless someone here has a solution to my problem (which would be nice, i love the speeds besides netflix) I guess i'm kinda forced to go to telus in the new year. Really hoping someone has a solution, I really do. P.S. Oh ya another thing that makes me think it's shaw. I was on the phone last night with shaw, and suddenly my movie on my 360 cut out and reloaded, and when it did i was watching it in glorious HD for about 30 minutes, and then it went back to the lowest quality :(

[BC] No more discovery Channel?

Site down just for me, help. Stumped

Few days ago a site I sometimes use for blackout games stopped working. I didn't think to much of it assumed it would return. 3 days later it was still timing out so I checked downforeveryoneorjustme.com and they said it was just me.... So I tried Chrome Firefox and IE on 3 different computers, cleared caches and cookies. Updated computers and rebooted them plus rebooted all networking gear. Tried different DNS servers and tried IP direct connection. Traceroutes fail at same ip when done from PC's and from Tomato Routers tracert tool. The extra puzzling part is I can get to site on same internet connection wifi from my Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7, but three computers can't browsers or torrent clients. I am at a total loss, I can usually figure this stuff out but this one has me stumped and over my head. Following is traceroute from computer is identical to router one minus 1 hop for router. [BC] will i get cable slowdown?

0

I want to switch from Telus to Shaw due to my roommate always "hogging" our bandwidth. The most Telus can offer in my rural area is obviously not enough. The main reason I've stayed away from Shaw is my friends back in the day would suffer awful slowdowns during peak times, but it seems shaw is offering new packages now. My brother just got the 50mb one. I live in town, and he lives in an even less dense area (with no slow downs so far), will I suffer any slow downs? Does this depend on the plan? Like 10-25 is shared but 50 and up is allll your houses?
