I have a Hitron Modem and I'd like to change the IP address, but I did a factory reset and the IP address remains the same. I even tried to change my MAC address on my PC and I had no success.

Upload Speeds Not Posted?

I was looking over the latest offering from Shaw and I noticed two things; First, it looks like Internet 300 is now $102/month which is lower than the $110/month prior to the $3 price increase (to $113/month) that came into effect April 1. Second, I can't find upload speeds for any of the tiers.

Shaw BlueCurve Bad Experience(only 2 ethernet ports, no DNS settings, s

Right out of the box it has been a disappointment. I was kind of excited for a new tech toy to play with and wound up shaking my head at the design decisions Shaw made. There are only 2 ethernet ports. The other two were converted to phone jacks *that are not even enabled.* They also do not allow you to choose customer DNS settings. Which breaks VPNs. Removing DNS settings is anti consumer and anti privacy. If you game you want to be on wired. Wireless is not good enough for serious or competitive gaming. After wasting 6ish hours of my life with one tech leaving on hold for over an hour I have decided to return the BlueCurve Modem. After ordering a gigabit ethernet switch to compensate for the lack of ports. If they could promise to fix the DNS settings option in an update I would have kept it. I'm boggled how they made these decisions that would have cost significant extra cost to implement. 4 ethernet ports and custom DNS is so standard it would cost extra to do anything non standard like remove custom DNS and make 2 of the ports Phone Jacks. If you want a phone jack it comes in addition to the 4 ethernet ports. Who ever at Shaw made those choices needs to be barred from making these kind of decisions in the future. Those 2 choices alone will have anyone tech savvy and knowledgeable about networking upset and return the Gateway. The manager I spoke to that trains people on the new Blue Curve completely agreed with me and said they had a similar reaction when they first saw the ports. Like even the Managers at Shaw realize how counterproductive those choices are. Shaw can not return the 6 hours I lost that they could have prevented by honestly and accurately advertising BlueCurve. If they had told me it only had two ethernet ports and no DNS settings I would have never gone for BlueCurve. If you tell me it is "Future Proof" I expect 4 ethernet ports and DNS settings. A regression is not "Future Proof" by any means or definition. There are also many reports about speed and other issues. Which I never got that far because of the lack of custom DNS settings. Also they don't really tell you the pods are limited to 75 mbps and you won't get full speed on the wifi pods if you have 150, 300, or 600. We all know they took away DNS Settings because if you 1.1.1.1 or Google DNS they can no longer monitor your traffic. I find their choice in this matter offensive, insecure, and unethical. We have the right to use the DNS of our own choosing. It is unethical to force us to use Shaw's DNS service. I did not agree to only use Shaw's DNS when I signed up and they have no reasonable or ethical ground to enforce the use of their DNS. They need to get out of their Ivory Towers and stop being disconnected with the needs and wants of their customers. We need 4 ethernet ports minimum and custom DNS settings. If you want to try BlueCurve you better be ready for only 2 ethernet ports, no DNS settings, and more surprises. The only value in it is the promotion they are offering. If you are a gamer and/or an advanced networker you will not be happy with the BlueCurve Gateway. Also while I'm at it the Hitron is terrible and forgets settings constantly. Choose Technicolor or Cisco. Yes, you can ask for a specific brand or model. If you do go for BlueCurve ask for the Technicolor model and avoid the two Arris models. The Arris models have widespread reports of buggines and poor functionality. The Technicolor model has been reported to work best of the three BlueCurve Gateway models. If you go for Internet 600 Shaw only lets you use BlueCurve even though technically the Cisco Modem can do 600. I had to go back down to the Grandfathered 300 and lose the 600 promo to return the BlueCurve package. Their system is programed to not accept the Cisco at 600 even though it can do it. The instant they give back the ability to choose your DNS Service and not be spied on by Shaw I'll go to BlueCurve again.

Download on First Ip slow, second ip on router normal

Hi so I am having problems with Shaw's Internet again. My Server which is connected directly to my XB6 modem is only getting around 120 mbps download and the upload is normal. And my router connected to my second Ip is getting the 600 mbps download and normal 20 mbps upload. I called shaw and they said I have to put my modem into normal non bridged mode and test that way so I said no. Now its been doing this for over a month and I powercycled the modem and still nothing. I don't think its my server connection because it was working fine awhile ago and the download speed test sometimes goes to 160 - 170 mbps download. Heres the speed test : https://shaw.speedtestcustom.com/result/b8b3f2e0-3ebe-11e9-858c-990bfca298c1

Someone is trying to connect to my RemoteAccess Windows Server

Hi, so there is someone who is trying to connect to my servers over and over again every day around 6 in the morning or at other times too. They use the login info "user, VPN, admin". This is happening on two of my servers. The first server I blocked the IP that it shows and did that twice as the IP changed a bit twice then stopped. But now the same IP is coming onto my second server and I know I can block it in my firewall too. Does someone know how I can tell who this is and get them in trouble or is it a BOT or some kind of phishing service. The IP is 185.232.67.13. I did an IP search a few weeks ago and said it was from the Philippines but maybe it has a VPN on that connection too. Any help knowing what this IP is trying to do would be great.

2019 Student Rates

It looks like the 2019 Student Rates have been posted. Seems a little earlier than previous years. And the rates are pretty horrible, in my opinion. www.shaw.ca/student Shaw Student Plans 2019: Internet 100 $60.00/month, Internet 300 $80.00/month Compared to last year... Shaw Student Plans 2018: Internet 75 $40.00/month, Internet 150 $45.00/month, Internet 300 $70.00/month Which I thought was a noticeable bump from the previous year... Shaw Student Plans 2017: Internet 25 $35.00/month, Internet 75 $40.00/month, Internet 150 $50.00/month I wish my year-over-year GPA trended like their prices...

[MB] Trying to get 2 IPs working in bridged mode on Aris XB6 600mbit plan

I'm trying to get my second IP working on my Shaw 600 plan. The chat techs say I'm provisioned but that the xb6 modem has an issue where it uses up one of the IPs. (which it does, when I go to 10.0.0.1 I can see the second IP) If I want 2 IPs to really work, I have to pay $10/month for a third IP with one of them wasted by the modem itself. (and as a test they provisioned a third IP and I was able to get both my routers online) The other option the chat tech gave me was to drop to 300mbit and their other modem. Does anyone have a working XB6 dual IP setup? Do you have a third IP listed in 10.0.0.1? (under connections/status) Does anyone know a contact at Shaw I can reach that can correctly provision 2 IPs?

[ALL] Shaw tech support: troubleshooting less than optimal transmission

0

So I swapped our Aris modem with another from one of the Shaw locations after a recommendation by Shaw level 1 support. Both 5G and 2.4G have a noticeable degradation in speed with 2.4G having an extreme hit. The results were the same after the swap. I changed splitters (provided recently by Shaw) and checked all cables which were all replaced a couple of years ago by the Shaw tech. Living in a high-rise apartment that's "become" a Telus building, I would not be surprised if there was some "tweaking" done by Telus or an inexperienced Shaw technician who may have lowered the signal into the building. The main reason for my posting the question is the moron at Shaw tech support with his thick accent wasn't really understanding me, but was being very annoying causing me to be quite frustrated. All he wanted to do was to make an appointment with a tech,. But due to scheduling and other issues, it's difficult to set up a time. How sophisticated is Shaw's equipment at their call centre to determine if the signals coming from their trunk line to the complex are "green" or optimal? I know Shaw support can see lights representing different colors within one's home or apartment unit, but can they see more or is can that only be done at Level 2 support? Ideally, I'd want a Shaw tech to come into our apartment basement and check all the levels. From experience, this seems to fix most of the issues we've ever had with Shaw.

Shaw DNS servers blocking site (s)?

The site https://ipleak.net/ is being blocked all of a sudden. If I change the DNS server manually to either Google or Open DNS of IPv4, I can access the site. Has anyone else noticed sites Shaw is blocking? EDIT: It appears to be working now.

ShawOpen driving me nuts

On my daily commute, stuck in stop-and-crawl traffic, I get popup messages on my cell phone inviting me to log into a ShawOpen WiFi connection. Sometimes I see two or three in one city block. It is driving me nuts. Here's the thing. I am not a Shaw customer, I've never logged into a ShawOpen account, and I have disabled open network notifications on my Android phone. And STILL I get these popups, which are very distracting when I am driving. How do I block these once and for all?

[ALL] New 5G service (pricing and connectivity)

0

Hi, so I have been wondering about the new 5G service that is supposed to come out soon all over the country. So are there going to be wireless 5G modems shaw might use or some company that offers 5G broadband wireless at home on your network with ipv4 and ipv6 and static ip's and unlimited Data? 5G is supposed to be around 10Gbps and low latency for Virtual Reality, movies download (streaming) and gaming just like how Fibre optics works I think. If 5G works like how I've heard it is, then wouldn't 5G be a good alternative to fiber FTTH and cheaper than running cables all over. I know the isp still has to either put up satellites or some kind of transmitters too.
